SÍN Culture Centre

SÍN aims to work for the sake of Hungarian performing arts on a national, as well as a European scale. Our major goal is to discover and support young talents and already existing independent groups and artists . By doing so we wish to promote the production of high-quality dance pieces that we also aim to distribute throughout Europe. To fulfill these goals SÍN rents and maintains the building of the SÍN Cultural Centre.

SÍN provides residencies to independent artists and companies who do not have their own place to rehearse and offers good conditions necessary for concentrated creative work.

In the 1600 square metre building of the SÍN Culture Centre there are three dance studios, video and sound studios, storage spaces for sets and other facilities, such as dressing rooms, showers, restrooms, a reception, a buffet/bar and an exhibition hall.

SÍN has been operating as a production house and residency center since 2006.

In terms of our recent activity, financial and infrastructural possibilities:

We offer:

  • 3 big professional dance studios (about 150 sqm each) + 2 smaller ones (for theatre and puppet theatre companies)
  • our theatre hall is a chamber theatre with a 12m x 13m stage and an auditorium that can seat cca.100-150 people

We provide:

  • facilities (studios, sound and light equipment) for Hungarian and international companies (physical theatre, contemporary dance, new circus, puppet theatre etc.)
  • residency programs for Hungarian and international companies
  • workshops and master courses for professionals

We organise:

  • festivals and our own repertory for a year-round theatre season including invitation of foreign companies
  • events in SÍN or around Budapest, Hungary and abroad
  • international (mostly European) tours for Hungarian companies

Our further interests are:

  • participating in networks in order to co-produce new international performances (in terms of finances, facilities, promotion and marketing etc.) and to facilitate the continuous training of artists and managers working in this field.

During the site visit dunaPart guests will have a chance to discover our facilities, meet the management team and see a work-in-progress presentation of Nigel Charnock’s collaboration with Forte Danse.

More information about Forte Danse and Nigel Charnock:

International director and choreographer Nigel Charnock will create a new dance theatre piece called 'REVOLUTION' for the Hungarian dance company Forte Danse.

This intensely physical, beautifully dramatic work is inspired by all revolutionaries of the world, and is a celebration of the human spirit and the search for freedom.
