Newsletter 4.

Platform

We have pleasure in announcing that the full programme is accessible on our home-page and that registration is open! DunaPart has succeeded in negotiating advantageous prices with its partner hotels, all close to the venues and in the centre of Budapest. We are looking forward to seeing everyone at the official opening of the Platform at 6 pm on 20 January at Trafó.
Everyone is invited to lunch on the 21st and 22nd, and we will provide an evening meal for those, who choose programmes that last until late in the evening.
Details on the platform's club and professional programme (debates and other events) will shortly be available on our website and we will follow up with more details in our next newsletter.

Program

In the previous newsletter we promised to introduce companies that have been invited this time too, so here follow two teasers:

Luke Jennings (The Guardian) about Nothing There… by The Symptoms

Performed to thudding jazz, the piece plays out a waking dream shot through with bizarre terrors. Half-glimpsed tableaux reminiscent of David Lynch’s film Eraserhead morph into surreal ballroom sequences in swimsuits and spats that pay homage to Pina Bausch. Vignettes of pain, fear and sadness swim dreamily against a lighting track of eye-popping strangeness. Extraordinary.

From Volkskrant (Holland) on Hard To Be a God by Kornél Mundruczó - Yvette Bíró:

This production is one that you simply must see. It is a powerful portrayal of a horrible world that Mundruczó and his cast present in such a way that despite all your reservations you stay there and see it through. Fear, manipulation, dependency, hope, misfortune, indifference and stupidity have a shock effect, in places downright infuriating, but at every moment authentic. (...) All this, what is more, we can see in a performance by a wonderful cast.

Practical

We are steadily filling up the home-page, and by this time all the important practical information is posted. We have opened registration, which will close on 15 January. On giving sundry basic information, all those registered can:

  • view and update their basic information
  • choose performances and programmes and, until 15 January, change them subject to availability of tickets
  • indicate preferences for meals
  • book accommodation (through our partner HBL Travel). If the offers from partner hotels are not suitable, or if you require accommodation of a different type, please inform Elica Winchester, who will gladly assist with problems concerning accommodation
  • and view the list of participants registered to date!

Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us via e-mail at info@dunapart.net.

There is about a month to go until dunaPart (including Holidays), and we hope to meet you soon!

Yours sincerely,
