Panel discussions with international and Hungarian participants
Panel 1: Friday 21 January > from 2 pm till 4 pm
The afternoon panel discussions at dunaPart aim to raise important issues of the contemporary performing arts scene both in an international and a local context.
- Panel 1:
Cultural financing and advocacy – The role of the local (artistic) community in times of „crisis“
The phenomenon of substantial budget cuts in the cultural sector throughout Europe make the question of cultural financing and advocacy especially relevant. We would like to have a look at this phenomenon from the perspective of the local artistic community’s role in this regard and how the cohesion of the community can help face these challenges.
How can stronger advocacy lead to reinforcing the position of this field, what are the modes and strategies of such advocacy in the different countries? Are there any organizations that are active in this field and if yes, what type of organizations are they? What kind of actions do these organizations take, how do they aim for more efficient advocacy?
What is the role of the local artistic/professional community in backing and developing stronger advocacy for the scene? How can the cohesion of the community be developed, how can the community become a driving force to strengthen the position of contemporary performing arts in the given country?
Panelists: Pieter Zeeman, moderator – Fund for Performing Arts (The Netherlands) Iván Angelus - Association of Contemporary Dance Theaters, Budapest Dance School (Budapest, Hungary) Loughlin Deegan - Dublin Theatre Festival (Dublin, Ireland) Joanna Lesnierowska - Old Brewery New Dance (Poznan, Poland) Laurie Uprichard - Dublin International Dance Festival (Dublin, Ireland)
- Panel 2:
Export / import: current trends and strategies on the performing arts market
At any platform or showcase, the questions of export/import are inevitably a main focus and concern. In this panel we would like to take a look at current strategies and trends of export and import on the performing arts market, by giving word to 5 professionals whose work is concentrated not only on international touring, but also on the international co-production of artists.
With this discussion, we can gain more insight into the present situation on the performing arts market, as well as the individual practices and strategies of invited panelists.
What artists and what kind of work is especially in demand? Is it possible to observe any tendencies? What artistic/aesthetic factors and criteria do you consider in your programming, production or management policies? What can be done to develop "export potential"? How can artists be supported in meeting the challenges of a competitive international context?
We hope to engage both international and local guests in an exciting dialogue where we will have a chance to share our views and experiences.
